Halloween 2024

Our Halloween season started early with the Grand Oaks Orchestra's Haunted Trail.  Lila was really looking foward to this.  In the past we have done the Grand Oaks softball team's Haunted Car Wash and the Grand Oaks Theater Department's Haunted Museum.

We weren't exactly sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a trail through the woods nextdoor to someone's house (like in a vacant lot or maybe it was part of their property.  It was hard to tell because it was so dark.)  I made Luke go with us because the more the merrier, right?  There was a lot of screaming from the "actors" and lots of jump scares and spooky costumes.  It only took about 5 minutes to go through.  It was right up Lila's ally.  She really liked the part where someone was in a werewolf costume that actually looked more like a regular wolf.  The photos are no good because of the darkness and movement, but I put them here anyway.
Lila really wanted to do it again, and I told her we could go back another day.  However we never got around to going back.  Maybe they will do it again next year.
Lila came up with her costume back at the beginning of October.  She knew she wanted to be Bumble Bee, but she had a hard time finding the right style she wanted.  The adult sizes were not as cool as the kids' sizes.  We ended up purchasing a size 10-12 knowing that it would be a little small.  It was small, but I think it worked out ok.
Our next Halloween activity was Uncle Matt and Aunt Jessica's party at their new house.  They also announced they are expecting a baby!

Luke wore his trusty tried and true cheeseburger costume.  I can't remember how many years in a row he has worn this.

Everyone had fun fishing in the pond that backs up to the house.

Halloween fell on a Thursday this year.  Luke had a Halloween themed practice that afternoon.

The day before Halloween, Gram helped me out by picking Lila up from school and taking her to the pumpkin patch to get a pumpkin.  I had to meet Luke at a private swim lesson.  We weren't able to carve the pumpkin until Halloween day.  She knew she wanted an Autobot symbol, and we did our best to do that.  It was a challenge though.
We had to do some surgery with toothpicks, but it turned out looking good in the end.
Gram and Grandad came over to help us hand out candy.

Luke was nice to go around the neighborhood with Lila.  He really had no interest (he doesn't even eat candy), but he's a good big brother.  This might be their last time to trick-or-treat together since he will be in college next year.😢

This house doesn't look very scary in the photo, but in person for whatever reason, Luke and Lila were both creeped out by it.  They argued over who had to knock.  They both walked away a couple of times without knocking, then Lila knocked and got behind Luke.  The people turned out to be nice.
They also had arguments about who had to knock on doors that weren't decorated, but did have their porch lights on.  They don't want people to get mad if they knock and they aren't participating.  I think we ended up skipping this one.

These were huge decorations.
We ended the night trick-or-treating at our own house.
Thank you Gram and Grandad for helping us out.
Lila likes handing out candy just as much as trick-or-treating.

Neither Luke or Lila ate any of the candy.  It's still sitting in the pantry today.
